About time. Now tell us what they had to do for it to happen and what shady shit is gonna pass next.

    2. Kinda sorta. It’s a *partial* win.

It doesn’t secure any actual reforms of ICE; they are still going to be able to do everything they do now (wearing masks, not wearing uniforms, not displaying names or badges, not wearing body cams, using administrative subpoenas instead of judicial ones, etc.)

As I understand, It just doesn’t give ICE any additional funding, any more than the gobs of money they already are allocated through the BBB, so ICE is already very well funded.

Too bad ICE is already funded billions thanks to the Big Ugly Bill they caved to last time..

So we caused this airline debacle for nothing? That’s the Trump way. Break something, make people suffer, and then partially fix it and claim heroism.

    5. And in typical Trump and Republican fashion they blamed the Democrats that TSA wasn’t being funded. Just like they blamed the October government shutdown on them.

Ok so what is going to stop the executive branch from diverting that money to ICE anyway? We saw what happened with DOGE.

    7. Glad they didn’t cave this time. The only reason I’m mad at them for the last shutdown is that they caved over an unfulfilled promise making the shutdown(and the pain that came with it) for nothing but grandstanding.

    8. So do the right wingers spin this to say democrats defunded border security to let in illegals to vote?

    9. We really need to get out of the horse race framing for these things. The senate voted to make funding available to DHS while not allocating and additional funds to ICE. This isn’t a win, it’s a tiny amount of government functioning at it’s most basic level to allow us to spend money on the security theatre that is the TSA. It also allocates money to the other parts of DHS that surveil and attack Americans.

I’m as happy as the next person that workers are getting paid for their work. I think it hurts us to frame this as a victory as it gives our electeds cover to provide deeply marginal concessions and frame it as a “win”.

ICE has $75 billion left for the next few years. Having already pissed away $25 billion in the last year. It was ridiculous to give them more money.

    11. Yes they won, but also nobody really won anything. It shows that having spine helps, and that their negotiation power is growing by the month with the Rs unpopularity. Personally I wish we saw more of this standalone type funding bills. If we’re ever going to come close to balancing a budget we need to have congress analyzing things department by department.

It is a little misleading to call this win for Democrats. ICE is already funded with about 75 billion dollars from the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ Republicans passed with Reconciliation at the beginning of trump’s 2nd term and so they dont need any DHS funding.

The real impetus for the shutdown was originally to get reforms to ICE, particularly concerning their enforcement practices, their use of face masks, and their use of administrative warrants. None of these objectives were achieved and Republicans made no concessions to Democrats to change ICE in any real meaningful way.

    13. Fantastic, but hearing about one good thing happening for every fifteen hundred awful, horrible, shitty, inhumane, racist fucking things just isn’t enough.

Can’t wait for the Republicans to say *they* funded the TSA because the Democrats didn’t want to, like they’ve been saying.
